Spanish Speaking Research Assistant

Position Summary

Coordinate and assists in the implementation of NIMH-funded research study of depression treatment among underserved Spanish-English bilingual elderly in community-based settings in New York City (R01MH124966).

Position Activities

  • Recruiting:

o         Screens and recruits potential Spanish speaking study participants on-site and in the community

o         Maintains relationships with Bilingual Senior Centers

o         Develops recruiting strategy both on-site and virtual

  • Assessing:

o   Performs on-site and virtual structured clinical assessments with Spanish speaking participants

o   Administers research measures on depression severity, suicidal ideation, cognitive functioning, social support, etc.

  • Scheduling:

o   Coordinates research interviews and clinical sessions with clients

o   Coordinates clinical sessions with study peer coaches and clinicians

o   Assists in audiotaping procedures and troubleshoots with participants

  • Tracking:

o   Randomizes clients and allocates providers

o   Tracks clients’ study participation and drop-outs.

o   Tracks follow-up assessments

o   Reviews and coordinates external fidelity audiotape review

  • Data collection:

o   Develops and prepares data collection sheets according to protocol requirements

o   Reviews data for accuracy, maintains records and conduct simple summary statistics

o   Data entry into REDcap

o   Ensures quality assurance monitoring procedures

  • Coordinating:

o   Documents study procedures and prepares project reports

o   Maintains project records, files, and manuals

o   Assists in troubleshooting subject and center staff questions

o   Assists in preparation of research documentation including IRB protocols

o   Coordinates project correspondence, reports, and publications

o   Attends team meetings to gather and present information

o   Assist study investigator to recruit, train, and supervise bilingual interventionists

Requirements: 

Minimum Requirements

-   Bilingual Spanish/English

-   Master’s level degree in relevant field (e.g., public health, social work, psychology, gerontology) or bachelor’s degree with relevant work experience

-   Position based in Manhattan, New York City and Brooklyn NY

Highly Desired Requirements

-     Prior research experience

-     Prior experience with clinical populations

Skills and Abilities

- Interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

- Familiarity with software including MS Word, REDcap, PowerPoint, Endnote, R and SPSS.
