Treatment Initiation Program (TIP)

Treatment Initiation Program (TIP) is a psychological intervention that was developed by Dr. Sirey and tested with funding from the National Institute of Mental Health (R01 MH087562) and in collaboration with Dr. Helen Kales at University of Michigan. The TIP intervention is designed to support adherence to pharmacological treatment of depression in older adults. TIP works to address barriers to treatment adherence at the individual level, like lack of self-efficacy and lack of education about antidepressants. By working to overcome these barriers, TIP helps to empower older adults to become active participants in their treatment. This project was completed through a partnership with University of Michigan and participants were recruited from collaborating primary care physicians.
